As I write this page, it's around 11.30 p.m. and in the last hour, next door's nine year old son has thrown three plates (which have of course broken), a bottle and some aerosol spray cans from his garden into our front paved area. In the process the plates have bounced off our car damaging the bonnet (hood).

He has also appeared at the front garden fence with paper and a gas cigarette lighter and (you've guessed it!) tried to set the garden fence alight. The mother is nowhere to be seen, and we have had to call out the police on their 15th visit in the last three weeks.

The fifteen year old daughter is staying with her father this week end, so we MAY get away with only one party on Sunday when she returns, these normally end with up to 23 youths in the house and the police called again at up to 4.30 a.m. in the morning to deal with the noise and ruckus.

Is this a Neighbour from Hell? You tell me!

In our case, they are a single-parent family of three, Mother, son and daughter. They all "know their rights" and could make a shipload of stokers blush with their language. We live in a semi-detached house (two houses with a dividing wall between,) and we have bought this half from the council some years ago. The half they live in was never sold and they are Edinburgh City Council tenants.

The law (an ass?) says that the identity of these "children" can not be revealed for reasons of legal confidentiality! My wife and I have been suffering from the ministrations of these "poor socially deprived children" for over 18 months now. I am no longer concerned about their confidentiality. Unless the situation improves dramatically and quickly, I WILL name and shame both the children and the various officials who have "jobsworthed" and forgotten that "WE" are the victims here, suffering from sleepless nights, intimidation and criminal damage amounting to over £1000 in the last four weeks of July alone (July 2000).

Updated damages: August 12th 2000! totals around £4700 made up of damages to house, car, caravan, neighbours car, son's car, garden furniture, garden and surrounding area.
